Part 1:

Part 2:
I ended up fouling the plug so I changed it, then I removed the carb and cleaned it (there was residue in the bottom of the bowl). I checked the petcock and found that in the prime position it dumps gas and in the down and resevere position is does not. (I assume that is correct)
Put it back together and last night it ran perfectly, it would idle, no black smoke, probably the best it has run while in my possesion.
This morning it is back to the way it was. running rich, black smoke, choking itself....
What is the next step? What am I missing?
